FIA Honoured with UN Tourism Award for Sport Tourism Development at the 26th General Assembly in Riyadh

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has been honoured with the UN Tourism Award for Sport Tourism Development during the 26th UN Tourism General Assembly, which this year marked the Organization’s 50th anniversary.
The award was received on behalf of the FIA by Mr. Feher Al Sharief, Deputy Chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF), in recognition of the important role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its member clubs in advancing FIA initiatives in sport tourism and sustainable development.

Mr. Habib Turki, Chief Development Officer of the FIA, addressed the plenary session, highlighting the strong link between motorsport, tourism, and sustainable development. He emphasized how global events such as Formula 1 Grands Prix drive innovation, promote destinations, and contribute to local economic growth.

During his intervention, Mr. Turki announced the launch of the FIA–UN Tourism Joint Awards for Sport and Sustainable Tourism, inviting applications until 17 November 2025, with the award ceremony to take place at FITUR Madrid 2026.

The FIA also congratulated the Touring and Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran (TACI) on its election to the UN Tourism Affiliate Members Board, reflecting the growing engagement of FIA members within the UN system.

“This award celebrates the power of sport to connect people, cultures, and economies through sustainable tourism,” said Habib Turki, Chief Development Officer of the FIA. “It also recognizes the collective efforts of our Member Clubs worldwide in advancing innovation, inclusion, and responsible travel.”

This recognition reaffirms the FIA’s global leadership in promoting sport and mobility as catalysts for sustainable tourism, innovation, and international cooperation.
